CARNFORTH citizens have been told not to worry - the Olympic torch WILL be passing through their town after all.
A slip-up by a city councillor had led Carnforth to believe they would be excluded from the parade when the torch passes through the district on June 22.
But Councillor Ron Sands has admitted he made a mistake and Carnforth IS included on the route.
Coun Sands had originally said “the torch is unlikely to pass through Carnforth town centre” during a speech at a council meeting on February 1.
But Coun Sands told The Visitor: “I am happy to take the blame, it was an honest misunderstanding and there WILL be something happening in Carnforth.
“I have apologised to Carnforth Town Council.”
LOCOG (London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games) say the torch will pass through Kendal, Milnthorpe, Carnforth, Bolton-le-Sands, Hest Bank, Morecambe, Lancaster and Garstang.
Local schools have been contacted to ask if pupils would like to line the route and watch the “once in a lifetime” journey of the torch.
A Lancaster City Council spokesman said the exact path of the torch would not be released for security reasons.
