Millions have been touched by Hayley Cropper’s battle with terminal cancer on Coronation Street. Now the actress who plays the TV favourite has paid her own heartfelt tribute to a hero of Morecambe Bay.
Julie Hesmondhalgh recorded a video message to thank Cedric Robinson MBE for half a century of helping people across the treacherous sands of the Bay.
Julie’s clip, along with messages from other celebrities including Ken Dodd and Lord Melvyn Bragg, will be played at an event to mark Cedric’s 80th birthday and his 50th year as the Queen’s Guide to the Sands.
Chris Abram, who has organised the gala evening at the Coronation Hall, Ulverston on October 11, said: “Julie has family in Milnthorpe and she walked across the sands with Cedric a few years ago to raise £15,000 for Parkinsons.
“She rang me and asked me to go and film her on set. They don’t normally allow people to film there.
“Julie was lovely. One take and we were done.”
Julie, who has played Hayley for 15 years, will leave the Street in January.
