An Olympic gold medallist surprised swimmers at Carnforth pool when she popped in for a dip.
Rebecca Adlington, winner of two Olympic gold medals, visited the Kellet Road facilities on New Year’s Eve with her fiancé Harry Needs.
She posed for a picture with Philippa Darlington, who swims for Carnforth Otters and the recent winner of the club’s best newcomer award.
Jean Baines, supervisor at Carnforth Pool, said: “Rebecca was staying nearby for the New Year with family and friends.
“It was very unexpected and she surprised us all when she popped in for a swim!
“She was very friendly and happily chatted and posed for pictures.
“It was a great thrill for Philippa, particularly as she is just at the start of her career while Rebecca is at the other end, having now retired.”
The day before, the star, 24, visited Lakes Leisure in Kendal where she also met young swimmers and posed for pictures.
