A long standing servant of the Morecambe music scene has died, aged 62.

Ron Johnson was the sound and lighting engineer at The Platform venue for many years, providing technical expertise behind-the-scenes at live music and entertainment shows.

Friends and musicians paid tribute to him on Facebook, one describing him as “the best ‘sound guy’ a band could wish for”.

Another said he was “such a nice man, a gentleman with a dry sense of humour”.

Ron passed away on February 1 after a long illness.

He is survived by his wife Glynis and children Jenny and Tom.
