Comedian Miranda Hart’s TV tribute to ‘our Eric’ was heart-warming viewing on Good Friday night.

The sitcom star traced Eric Morecambe’s roots to his home town, visiting the Winter Gardens theatre where he performed as a boy and the house on Buxton Street where he was born.

Miranda also affectionately laid her head on the shoulder of the Eric Morecambe statue and said: “I do love you, you old fool!”

‘My Hero’ on BBC1 portrayed our resort as a sleepy and quaint seaside town, with Miranda commenting: “Morecambe is lovely, very peaceful.”

There was splendid footage of the town’s heyday, including external shots of the Winter Gardens in its glory days and O’Hagan’s oyster stall on the beach.

Miranda made a flying visit to Morecambe in December to film scenes for the programme. She also spent time at Eric’s beloved Luton Town Football Club. ‘My Hero’ is a series where famous people follow in the footsteps of those who have inspired them.
