David’s Diary: Praise for our butchers

Thank you to the team at Lingwood Security for making me welcome on Friday.

It was interesting to have a look around their purpose built premises in Heysham.

Lingwood provide security all over the UK and they currently have some exciting plans for expansion overseas.

Well done to Conservative controlled Lancashire County Council for reducing their portion of the Council Tax by 2%. Despite the reduction they have also increased the number of PCSOs throughout the county which is excellent news.

Last week I tabled a Parliamentary motion in Parliament in support of our butchers.

The motion reads:

“That this House notes with concern that horse meat was discovered in a beef lasagne product that was labelled to contain 100 per cent beef; further notes that butchers in Morecambe and Lunesdale constituency serve top quality meats often sourced from the area; and urges the Government to encourage people all over the UK to shop with local butchers to guarantee good quality meat.”

I was pleased to learn recently that the number of apprenticeships in the Morecambe and Lunesdale constituency in 2011/12 has risen by 88% since 2009/10. We will only succeed as a country when everyone is given the chance to reach their full potential. The coalition Government have dramatically increased the number of apprenticeships on offer compared to the previous Government.

These record levels of apprenticeships are fantastic news for the whole country, for the constituency, and most of all for the people whose lives are being transformed by the opportunities they offer.
