The Office of National Statistics (ONS) released the latest unemployment figures last week and I am very pleased to tell you that unemployment in Morecambe and Lunesdale has fallen.

The number of claimants in Morecambe and Lunesdale is 401, lower than in March 2013 and 73 lower than in February 2014.

This is very welcome news, because the more people in work bringing home a pay packet the better.

Economically things are bright here, the Government’s long term economic plan is working.

In addition, we have the Heysham M6 Link Road currently being built, I have heard of a number of businesses who are expanding as a result of the road and I hope planning will be submitted anytime for the redevelopment of the former Frontierland site.

I heard just last week of another business in Morecambe who will be making a major announcement over the coming months.

I was disappointed to hear over the weekend that HMRC is proposing to share tax data with private firms, I think this is an absolute disgrace, HMRC is a Government organization not a private money maker and I will be taking this up at the very highest level when Parliament returns after the Easter Recess break.

Soon I will be announcing the details of this year’s summer tour, if you’d like me to visit your workplace, community centre or do a street surgery on your street, please contact me.

A reminder that the deadline for expressions of interest for the Coastal Communities Fund is fast approaching, if you would like to make an application you will need to have it submitted by April 30.

You can find more information on my website www.davidmorrismp.co.uk, there is a total of £64 Million available and I would like as much of it as possible to come to Morecambe and Lunesdale.

Please remember to let me know your thoughts about Morecambe and Lunesdale by completing my constituency wide questionnaire.
