Carnforth Carnival could be making a comeback next year with the community’s help.

Following on from the success of Morecambe Carnival earlier this year, organisers in Carnforth have been overwhelmed by support with more than 500 people posting pictures and memories on to the dedicated Facebook page, Carnforth Carnival Comeback 2015.

Organiser Andrea Smith, together with friends Julie Lambert and Liam Law, have been amazed at the responses already.

Andrea said: “We held a family fun day at the cricket club and thought it would be great to build on that to have a carnival day.

“The meeting scheduled for Monday night will hopefully make sure people come out and show their support.

“We are looking for sponsorship and want to develop a programme. We need three main sponsors to go ahead but we have 15 to 20 floats already.

“Things are still in the early stages.

“The last Carnforth Carnival was in 1989 and it used to be a massive event. I’m pretty sure it will go ahead next summer. It’s our baby.

“With sheer determination, passion, hard work and us all putting our heart and soul into it, it is achievable.”

At the public meeting held on Monday members of the public attended to discuss ideas for the carnival.

A carnival committee was formed and a meeting arranged for next Monday. Andrea said: “We have been overwhelmed by support.”
