Funds raised in memory of a much-loved school teacher will go towards building a new school in Asia.
More than £1,500 was donated in memory of Simon Martindale, a science teacher at Morecambe Community High School who died in December 2013.
The money was raised at Mr Martindale’s funeral for Wyresdale Children’s Homes based in India, Nepal, Thailand and Myanmar, formerly known as Burma.
The homes are run by Kays Farm Christian Fellowship in Over Wyresdale, near Dolphinholme, which was Mr Martindale’s church for the last decade of his life.
The money will go towards building a Bible School and Skills for Life Centre next door to the home in Myanmar.
Mr Martindale was a keen supporter of the fellowship’s work and often taught from the Bible at church. His family and the church thanked everyone who gave to the cause.
Mr Martindale, who worked at Morecambe High for 22 years, died after being swept into the flooded River Rothay in Ambleside on December 23.
