A charity football match was held at Lancaster City FC’s ground the Giant Axe in memory of a keen footballer.

Friends old and new joined together for a day of football in memory of Alan ‘Shanksy’ Shanks and to raise money for charity.

There were four teams playing, CC Wanderers, Shanks’ Friends, TIC Ancients and TIC 2nd team.

In the first game Shanks’ Friends played against TIC Ancients and TIC Ancients won 2-1.

The second game was CC Wanderers against TIC 2nd team and CC Wanderers won 1-0.

TIC Ancients and CC Wanderers played in the final and the winners were TIC Ancients who won 1-0.

The weather was hit and miss but it was a great day.

Leon Devaney, who knew Alan for two years and played football with him, said: “Everyone was getting into the spirit of the day and was happy and cheering. He would have been proud.”

TIC Ancients were presented with the shield by Tracy, Alan’s wife.

Alan Shanks, from Heysham, passed away in April at the age of 37.
