A CARNFORTH woman has told of her year-long sewage hell in council housing.

The drains in the garden of Rachael Harrison’s home on Highfield Road have been overflowing for the 12 months she has lived in the accommodation.

She told The Visitor the smell had been so unbearable that she had been unable to sleep and had been forced to close her mobile catering business.

Lancaster City Council is now acting to remedy the problem.

Miss Harrison, who lives in the flat with her 16-year-old daughter, said: “I’ve contacted the council seven, eight, ten times a week and they’ve just fobbed me off. They won’t re-house me and I can’t live in these conditions.

“I can’t sleep with the smell. I have a mobile catering unit but I can’t bring stock in and out of the building because of the risk of contamination so I’ve had to cease trading. At times it’s been ankle deep out there.”
