Carnforth woman hurt in smash

A 23-YEAR-OLD woman from Carnforth suffered serious injuries following a two-car collision in Cumbria.

The woman was driving a black Renault Clio along the A595 at Thursby when it was involved in a collision with a silver Peugeot 206 van travelling in the opposite direction.

She suffered head injuries following the crash at 7.25am on Friday, November 18, and was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Newcastle, where she was in a stable condition on Monday morning.

Two passengers in the Clio, females aged 21 and 23, and two men in the Peugeot, the driver, aged 34 and a passenger, aged 16, were taken to Carlisle Infirmary with minor injuries.

Police are also trying to trace a third vehicle which they believe may have failed to stop after being involved in the collision.

It is believed to have been driven off in the Carlisle direction.

The road was closed for two-and-half hours while emergency services cleared the scene.
