Proposals for new city centre homes will go before planners next month.

Councillors will vote on an application to knock down existing buildings at Riverview House on Bulk Road and build 53 properties.

The site is near the Ridge Estate and bordered by Langdale Road and Bulk Road to the west, Lancaster Canal to the east, the ambulance station to the north and Grebe Wharf to the south.

Plans submitted to the city council by Darren Leary state that, if granted, the scheme would comprise 16 one-bed apartments, 13 two-bed houses, three two-bed bungalows and 21 three-bed houses - all of which would be for ‘affordable rent’ through a registered provider. Officers have recommended the application is approved with 21 conditions.

The council’s strategic housing officer ‘strongly supports’ the proposal.

It will be debated at the next planning committee meeting of Lancaster City Council on November 11.
