MORECAMBE Town Council is lining up a bid for a possible £100,000 Government grant to help boost the resort.

At last Thursday’s meeting councillors set the wheels in motion to apply to be one of the selected pilot schemes supported following a study of high streets by retail expert Mary Portas.

The Portas Review made recommendations about how government, local authorities, businesses and communities could work together to lift struggling town centres.

The Government is yet to release its full response to the recommendations but will support 12 pilot schemes to test the concept.

Each scheme could receive a grant of up to £100,000.

The council will have to set up a “Town Team”, which would need to be representative of the local business community, to put together its submission by the March 30 deadline.
