The crisis-hit West End Market has found a new home and will be renamed the Empire Bazaar.

The market, currently based in the Alhmabra buildings in the West End, will move into Morecambe’s former Reebok shop in November.

The new market will be open on two floors in the vacant shop on the junction of Marine Road and Central Drive close to the site of the former Empire nightclub.

Recently The Visitor revealed that Joanne Harrison, market manager, was outbid for the lease on its West End base and feared for its future.

Mrs Harrison said she was delighted to have found new premises so the market can survive.

The new leaseholders of the Alhambra ground floor have not been named, but are believed to be a local charity.

The survival of the West End Market is another boost for markets in Morecambe.

Despite some traders’ fears to the contrary, there are no plans to close the Festival Market and owner Lancaster City Council is investigating ways to improve it.
