THERE is no need for retailers to panic despite the loss of another ladies fashion store in the town centre, says a leading shopkeeper.
John Bates, secretary of the Morecambe Chamber of Trade, has reassured other traders following the closure of Azuri fashion accessories in the Arndale.
New Look in the town’s main shopping centre is also expected to close by the end of September and nearby Ethel Austin is also due to shut.
But Mr Bates, also manager of the Green Room cafe, said: “I’m not unhappy about the current situation from a retailing point of view. Businesses come and go all the time. The Arndale is better tenanted now than it has been for several years. I think Azuri was a good business but it’s a very big unit and you’ve got to sell a lot of small value items to make money.”
