Liz Reid, coordinator for Vote Leave for Lancaster, said: "I am absolutely delighted. When we took over our market stall in Lancaster about 90 per cent of the people we spoke to wanted to remain; by the time we finished it was about 80 to 90 per cent wanting to leave.
"This is such a positive message. The Lancaster people have spoken.
"It was always going to be a tight result because there is a lot of Labour and Green support. But I feel that there is a momentum growing across the whole country."
