Bike man dives in to second venture

Ian Arnold of The Bike Shop on Pedder Street.

When Ian Arnold first came to Morecambe, he wanted to be a scuba diving instructor.

But cycling is also in his blood, so Ian followed this other great passion in his life instead.

Now the Mancunian has expanded his business by opening a second bicycle and parts shop in Morecambe.

The Bike Shop on Pedder Street will operate alongside his first shop, Bays Bikes near The Battery.

“My dad raced for the British Army and I rode for the South Manchester Cycle Touring Club, the biggest cycling organisation in Britain,” said Ian.

“It was originally my ambition to move abroad and be a scuba diving instructor for a living. They had a course at Lancaster and Morecambe College but I ended up working at Mike’s Bikes on Alice Street, and then all my money went into this.

“A lot of people come in and say that it’s going to be hard, but stick with it.”
