Barry Roche column: Late goal was kick in teeth

Unfortunately that is the second week in a row where we have been far from our best.

Unlike last week, where it was very much a point gained, Saturday was definitely two points dropped. I don’t really think we deserved all three points but losing a goal so late in the game was a real kick in the teeth.

We never got going for the first half hour and were probably a bit fortunate to go in level at the break.

We gave the ball away far too many times in the first half but that did improve after the change of ends.

Oxford hardly threatened us after that and their goal had more than a slice of luck about it.

Their wide man shanked his shot horribly but it turned out to be a brilliant cross.

The one thing we can’t and won’t do is feel sorry for ourselves.

We are coming into a vitally important period with some massive games and we are going to need to be on top form if we are to come out the other side with a good return of points.

Big Kev hasn’t scored many tap ins during his time with us.

His goals usually are pretty spectacular. But he got himself in the right place at the right time for his goal after a great set piece delivery.

As is the usual with Kev he has spent the last few days telling anyone that will listen how many goals he has scored so far this season, all of which have been world class according to him!

Finally, on behalf of all the lads , we wish you all a very Happy Christmas, a great New Year and we hope to see you down at the Globe cheering us on.
