The owner of a hen charity that sells eggs to help pay for the birds has slammed a man caught on CCTV stealing a box of them.

Tina Wilkinson, who runs Hedwig’s House chicken Sanctuary at Hest Bank said: “It always upsets me when people steal things, it’s even more upsetting when they steal from charity.

“Hedwig’s House relies mainly on egg sales to pay for food, bedding, and vet bills.

“Stealing eggs is stealing food from the mouths of the animals.

“In the past, people have put a note in saying sorry they forgot money, and posted it through the letterbox later, I don’t mind that, but what makes them think it’s ok to just take them?

“This has happened before, and luckily we have now had a CCTV system donated to us.

“The eggs are only £1.20 a box but eight boxes pay for a whole bag of food for the chickens.

“It’s not just a trivial crime and it makes a huge impact.” The theft of eggs occurred at 11.30am on April 2 at Hest Bank, Morecambe.
