And the nominees are...

A BIG thank you to everyone who nominated for our annual Sunshine Awards.

The nominations have been counted and the top three candidates in each category have been finalised.

The nominees will be invited to our Sunshine Awards ball on Friday, May 11 at the Midland Hotel, sponsored by Morecambe Press, where the winners will be announced.

The Sunshine Awards recognise people who have made a positive difference to Morecambe and its community.

The nominees are:

UNSUNG HERO

Don Holroyd–charity worker, “the hedgehog man of Morecambe”

Tony Kimpton–fund raiser for Galloway’s Society for the Blind

David Riley–chairman of Bare Village Business Association and charity worker

COMMUNITY GROUP

The congregation of St Luke’s Church, Slyne–nominated for providing relief packages to underprivileged families in Morecambe

Morecambe Brass Band Association–championship-winning local brass band

Happy Mount Park volunteers–nominated for their work keeping Happy Mount Park looking beautiful

SPORT

John McGuinness–TT motorbike racing legend

Graham Hicks–British champion strongman

Danny Carlton–long-serving Morecambe FC striker

ENTERTAINMENT

Howard Rogerson–musical director of Morecambe’s Promenade Concert Orchestra

Ivan Harrison–promoter of the Morecambe Nice ‘n’ Sleazy punk festival

Joyce Warrington–long-serving dance teacher and amateur dramatics producer/director

Now once again it’s over to you! Voting now opens to decide the winners of our 2012 Sunshine Awards.

Alternatively please write to Sunshine Awards Voting, Editorial, 12 Victoria Street, Morecambe, Lancs, LA4 4AG. Please state clearly the person/group you are voting for, and include your name and address.

Any previous nominations made will count towards the final vote.

Voting will close on Friday, May 4.

Tickets are still available for the Sunshine Awards Ball, priced £35, including a three-course meal, auction, raffle and live music from The Paul Hayes Collection.
