GRAHAM Alexander is the bookies’ favourite to become Morecambe’s new manager.
However, The Visitor understands there has been no contact between Morecambe FC and the 39-year-old Burnley midfielder regarding the vacant manager’s position.
Alexander is 4/6 with Sky Bet to get the job with early favourite, Shrimps legend Jim Bentley, now 5/1 to replace Sammy McIlroy who left the club on Monday after five years in charge.
Alexander, who is due to complete his UEFA Pro Licence coaching badge next summer, has been player-coach at Turf Moor for the last two seasons and if he were to become Shrimps boss it is believed it would be as player-manager.
Other names thought to be in contention are Micky Adams, sacked by Sheffield United last night following their relegation from the Championship and Kidderminster Harriers manager Steve Burr.
The Shrimps board meet tomorrow, Thursday, and will start the process of appointing a new manager.
Chairman Peter McGuigan told the Visitor following McIlroy’s departure that the club wanted to appoint a new man sooner rather than later.
