The skip wagon ended up on its side with the road blocked in both directions.

Three cars – a Mitsubishi L200, a Nissan Pathfinder and a Peugeot 206 – were all involved in the incident.

One man, who had been driving the wagon, was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital suffering a head injury.

Due to the accident, Stagecoach suspended all services operating between Lancaster and the university.
