A CONTROVERSIAL 20mph zone in Morecambe is a waste of time and money, say residents.
Many feel that the 20mph limit in the West End is meaningless as police are only authorised to enforce the original 30mph limit.
A similarly contentious scheme hit the national headlines recently when police in the south of England refused to enforce a 20mph limit.
Last month it was reported that Portsmouth City Council was considering taking police in Hampshire to court over its refusal to enforce 20mph zones.
One resident, Peter Lee of Barnes Road, expressed the general consensus of residents: “I feel the signs are meaningless and an expensive exercise by local and national government.”
