A WORKMAN was taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary with burns after fire broke out in a flat above Specsavers in Euston Road, Morecambe.
The pedestrianised area in front of the buildings was cordoned off and the shop closed as firefighters tackled the blaze.

Crew Manager Gerard Burke, of Morecambe Fire Station, said: "There were two workmen inside the flat who managed to get out but one had been burnt.

"The room was gutted but the flat was relatively empty because the place was being developed at the time so it could have been a lot worse."

Mr Burke said the cause of the fire was being investigated by the fire service and police.
