TAKEOVER talks between the owners of the Midland Hotel and a major Lake District-based hotels chain are progressing well and could be finalised as early as next week.
Bosses at Urban Splash are negotiating with English Lakes Hotels, owners of the four-star Lancaster House Hotel, about them taking over the operation of Morecambe's art deco centrepiece.
English Lakes currently boasts a chain of luxury hotels including the Storrs Hotel – a distinctive Georgian mansion – as well as
the Low Wood Hotel, both on the banks of Windermere. "We can confirm that Urban Splash is currently in talks with English Lakes Hotels about the possibility of English Lakes taking over the management and operations of the Midland Hotel in Morecambe," said Leanne Forshaw, spokesperson for Urban Splash.
