POLICE have issued a warning to local horse-owners to check their security following recent thefts in the area.
The warning comes after thieves targeted three local premises and stole various items of riding and equestrian equipment.
One building in Nether Kellet saw equipment, including several saddles worth more than £800, stolen from stables.
Two pre
mises in Out Moss Lane were also targeted with a racing cart and harness valued at £900 taken from one building, and equipment worth more than £500, taken from another.
All the offences took place between August 19 and August 20.
A police spokesperson said: "All horse-owners need to be aware that thieves do occasionally target stables and other premises such as farms where riding tack is kept.
"It is a relatively rare crime in this area but we would advise all owners to ensure their security is maintained and where necessary, im-proved.
"We would also ask anyone who sees any individuals or any vehicles acting suspiciously around the areas of stables to contact police on 01524 63333.
"We would also like to hear from anyone offered any riding equipment for sale on the cheap in dubious circumstances to get in touch with us."
Information on any of the crimes can also be given to the anonymous Crimestoppers number, 0800 555111.
