THE owners of the Elms are once again pushing to demolish the Bare hotel and replace it with a sheltered flats development – 12 months after a similar scheme was refused by council planners.
Mitchell's Brewery has applied for planning permission to bulldoze the 100-year-old hotel and replace it with 50 living apartments, two nurses' studios, an under croft parking area and an under croft storage facility.

Last summer, a similar application was turned down by Lancaster City Council.

Reasons given for the refusal included that the site was not derelict, there was concern about the loss of another of More-cambe's hotels and concerns about the additional impact on neighbouring properties. It was also said the developers had not demonstrated a need for the new accommodation.

Some residents and Morecambe Neighbour-hood Council also objected to the application.
