MORECAMBE boss Sammy McIlroy was left frustrated after seeing his side slide to their first defeat in four games as a late goal gave Macclesfield the three points in a match the Shrimps dominated for long spells.

Green struck with with just three minutes to go to give Ian Brightwell's side only their second win in 15 games and give the Silkmen revenge for a 2-1 defeat at Moss Rose earlier in the year.

Receiving the ball just inside the area, he took full advantage of the space afforded to him by a generous Morecambe defence and produced a quality finish to beat Shwan Jalal low to his left.

Morecambe were left kicking themselves for missing a catalogue of good chances.

Garry Thompson drilled an effort into the side netting on 20 minutes when he really should have scored and headed inches wide after nipping in between goalkeeer Jonny Brain and defender Neil Ashton.

Brain then went on to frustrate the Shrimps with two fine blocks from Thompson and a stunning save from Stewart Drummond.

Carl Baker was Morecambe's biggest threat with some superb runs but on three occasions he shot wide of the target when his skills deserved a better finish.
