Danny Carlton's first goal since returning to the Shrimps on loan from Carlisle was enoujgh to give the Shrimps a valuable point at Kenilworth Road.
Carlton hit a stunning volley on 56 minutes to level the scores after Michael Spillane had given the home side the lead five minutes earlier.

Luton enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges and could have taken the lead in the first minute. Paul McVeigh found himself in space in the box but his effort was superbly saved by Barry Roche and Henry McStay reacted well to block a follow up effort by Chris Martin.

The pressure continued with Asa Hall drilling a low effort wide and Roche making another superb block from Keith Keane's low shot from the edge of the area.

After a tough opening Morecambe hit back with Stewart Drummond volleying over and Rene Howe forcing a goal line clearance from a Luton defender after a good header from Craig Stanley's corner.

The second half burst into life with two goals in quick succession.

Luton took the lead on 51 minutes when Michael Spillane took advantage of some slack marking to volley home Rossi Jarvis's corner.

But within five minutes Morecambe were on level terms with a superb goal from Danny Carlton as he volleyed Stanley's corner into the top right hand corner of Conrad Logan's goal.

Spillane came close to giving Luton the full three points with a header that flew inches wide of the right hand post in the last minute.

Sammy McIlroy went with the same side that beat Darlington 1-0 at Christie Park last week for the Shrimps's first ever visit to Kenilworth Road.

The only change came on the bench where Lewis Edge was named substitute keeper after Scott Davies picked up a hamstring strain in midweek.

A large crowd of Shrimps' fans have travelled to the game in Eric Morecambe outfits to mark the links between the two clubs and the nation's best loved comedian.
