MORECAMBE extended their unbeaten run to nine games with a rare victory over Dagenham.
Two goals in a minute were enough to give the Shrimps only their second win in 12 visits to Victoria Road, earning Sammy McIlroy's in-form side their fifth away victory of the season.

Former Celtic striker Diarmuid O'Carroll made it 1-0 on 13 minutes when he got a flick on to Henry McStay's free kick with a header that beat Tony Roberts via the foot of the left hand post.

Midfielder Stewart Drummond doubled the advantage a minute later with a sweet volley from the edge of the area that took a deflection before beating the unfortunate Roberts.

Drummond then had a golden chance to make it 3-0 but blasted over from an angle and on the stroke of half time Michael Twiss also came close to making it 3-0 when he beat Roberts to the bouncing ball but saw his effort sneak wide of the left hand post.

Dagenham were second best for long periods but wasted a glorious opportunity themselves when Doug Loft broke free but shot horribly wide.

John Still's side were much brighter in the second period and forced a string of corners as they piled on the pressure.

On-loan striker Jamie Guy had a sight of goal with a shot on the turn that was easily gathered by Barry Roche before the Morecambe keeper saved superbly from Matt Ritchie's left foot drive.

Roche had to be at his best again to save from Scott Griffiths's sweetly struck effort and showing smart reflexes to block Danny Foster's near post header.

Morecambe had chances themselves on the break with both Wayne Curtis and Michael Twiss denied by excellent blocks from Roberts.
