Morecambe suffered a second successive defeat as they went down to Barnet at Underhill.
A second minute goal from Paul Furlong gave Barnet an early lead and Morecambe could not get back into the game despite producing a more assured performance.

Veteran Furlong struck after another moment of poor defending from Morecambe who failed t
o clear their lines from a Barnet counter attack.

The goal came just a few moments after the Shrimps almost took the lead themselves when Ian Craney was put through by Phil Jevons and hit the post with a shot from the edge of the area that curled past Jake Cole.

After the shock start Morecambe came close again when Jevons forced Cole into a decent save and Dave Artell was inches away from connecting with a Neil Wainwright cross.

The secons half saw the Shrimps enjoy the majority of the possession and were denied an equaliser on 54 minutes when a Laurence Wilson goal was ruled out for a foul. Twiss curled a superb ball to the far post and Wilson slotted home but the referee ruled it out for a foul that left the Morecambe bench fuming.

To add insult to injury the Shrimps conceded a second eight minutes from time when Darren Moss brought down Albert Jarrett in the box and the same Barnet player stepped up to send Roche the wrong way from the spot.

Wayne Curtis came close to scoring a consolation for the Shrimps in injury time but fired over from close range as Morecambe suffered their second successive defeat.

New signing Manny Panther made his debut in midfield with Craig Stanley dropping to the bench in a changed Morecambe line-up that saw the Shrimps without two important defenders.

Will Haining missed out with a knee injury and skipper Jim Bentley was also out with a virus. Their absences meant Neil Wainwright comes in for his first start of the season at right wing back while Darren Moss moved to centre half.
