MORECAMBE have signed the highly-rated Diarmuid O'Carroll from Celtic.
The 20-year-old, who is a product of the Celtic youth academy and has been a regular scorer in the Bhoys' Reserve teams for the past couple of seasons, has signed a one-year deal at Christie Park.

Described by late Celtic coach Tommy Burns as a 'natural striker who can score goals', O'Carroll has been capped by the Republic of Ireland at all youth levels.

He comes highly recommended by Morecambe manager Sammy McIlroy's contacts across the Border.

McIlroy said: "My former United team mate Jimmy Nicholl really rates this boy and he is without doubt an exciting prospect.

"He has been scoring regularly for Celtic Reserves for a while now and is keen to come and make his mark.

"He had a choice of a few clubs but he chose us and I am really looking forward to seeing him link up with the rest of the lads."

O'Carroll said it was a big decision to leave Celtic Park but felt the timing was right.

He said: "As a young Irish footballer it was my ambition to play for Celtic and I love the place.

"But I have to think of my career now and look to make my mark.

"A few clubs were interested in signing me but I liked what Sammy McIlroy had to say about the place.

"I came down a few weeks ago and it seems a really friendly club and I can't wait to get started."

O'Carroll is the eighth player to sign for the Shrimps during the close season.

Almost the final piece of the jigsaw. If you read some of the posts on various websites this lad is something special. Just the kind of support that Blinkhorn was missing last season. Still some dead wood to dispose of and a left winger required and we should be looking good for the new season. Let's hope that 1 year deal is extended just as soon as he starts scoring. And the big question is will the Shrimps faithfulls in the North Stand be singing the Neil Sedaka classic Oh Carrol this year?????
