MORECAMBE have picked up their first 'trophy' of the season.
Morecambe players were delighted to receive the highly sought after 'Ultra Team of the Round' award following the first round stage of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy competition.

The team was rewarded for its performance in the game against Oldham Athletic, a side currently located in 2nd place in League One. The final score was 1-1 but went to The Shrimps after winning 5-4 on penalties.

Morecambe boss, Sammy Mcilroy enjoyed a dream start as his team notched up an impressive win in the game, thanks to their goalkeeper, Barry Roche, after saving plenty of Oldham attempts to gain a lead in the match on 2nd September 08.

The Shrimps were on their way to victory after a rousing effort but unfortunately could not find the winning goal – but they came out on top on penalties, with Dave Artell, O'Carroll, Paul Lloyd, Hunter and Andrew Parrish netting great on-spot kicks.

The battle for the title will now continue on 7th October 2008 against League Two side, Chester City who are currently placed 13th in the table.

Johnstone's sponsorship manager Teresa Hardwick said: "Everyone at Johnstone's is looking forward to the second round. If the clubs continue to play the way they are at the moment we are surely set for a great final. These clubs deserve the recognition of their hard work.

"The award is now being sponsored internally by the Johnstone's Ultra range which is designed to provide the highest standard of finish in the fastest possible time. Sammy's boys have certainly taken a leaf out of our book when it comes to scoring goals!"
