The game had been in doubt after torrential rain in the north west for several days.

But a 10am pitch inspection on Saturday established it was fit to play on, with clearer spells predicted for the rest of Saturday.

Tuesday's penalty shoot-out win delighted boss Sammy McIlroy who said he hoped it would 'kickstart' the club's season.

He said: "We had little bit of luck in the first half but you need that and I don't think we have had that so far this season.

"We came through and battled on even when we were a goal down. We battled back and scored a fantastic goal.

"Let's hope this does kickstart our season. We've got Shrewsbury then we've got a few games where we think we can go and put a performance on but let's hope this result sets us up for a bit of a run."

McIlroy will assess Wayne Curtis ahead of the game. The winger needed stitches in a head wound on Tuesday after a clash at Oldham

Michael Howard also went off on Tuesday with a trapped nerve in his back. Danny Adams was likely to return at left-back anyway.

McIlroy added: "We've had a difficult start against teams up there in the top three or four and Shrewsbury are riding high too and we have got to match their effort.

"Our defeats have been down to our mistakes. One Tuesday we limited the amount of mistakes we made and hopefully we can take that into Saturday."

McIlroy is likely to keep faith with Tuesday's line-up with Diarmuid O'Carroll, Andy Parrish, Stewart Drummond and Garry Hunter all likely starters.

And Craig Stanley is back in favour and could feature in the squad if he has recovered from his toe injury.

Drummond scored on Tuesday at Oldham and will line up against his former team, who are now managed by Paul Simpson.

McIlroy said: "Stewart had bit of indifferent form since he has come back from Shrewsbury but on Saturday and at Oldham, he was the Stewart Drummond I know and showed why I brought him back to the club.

"He is experienced, can pass the ball and can score goals. If he can keep anywhere near the level where he is at the moment, he will be in the side."
