MORECAMBE were left frustrated by Barrow as they came one wicket away from a what would have been a valuable 15-point win.

Mark Lomas's side had to be content with nine points from the trip to Furness as Barrow's last-wicket pairing survived.

Morecambe were put into bat with Ryan Smith – following two fifties in the Lancashire County Cricket Festival last week – coming in for Mark Woodhead.

Smith made four befure he was caught behind in the third over, bringing pro Bruce Martin to the wicket.

Martin and opener Vishal Goyal put on excellent partnership on a sticky wicket where runs were hard to come by as the ball was not coming onto the bat.

The score was approaching three figures when a loss of balance saw Goyal bowled for 45 by Daryl Wearing.

But with Martin looking in form, Morecambe looked set to build a good score until a controversial run out saw the end of the New Zealander.

Martin brought up his 50 with what looked to ba comfortable push for two, but as he turned after his first run, he collided with bowler Jonathon Miles and was run out.

In scenes reminiscent of the recent England v New Zealand one-dayer, the umpires asked whether Barrow wanted to uphold their appeal and, like Paul Collingwood, Barrow skipper Wearing did. go ahead.
That left Morecambe incensed as they had lost a lot of the momentum from their innings, especially as Phil Dennison was soon out for three as well.

Ironically there were two more run outs to come as Morecambe went for late runs, Lomas falling to a direct hit and Gareth Pedder losing his wicket off the last ball.

Pedder was back in action with the ball and bowled a superb spell of 17 straight overs, taking three wickets, all bowled.

One of those was Barrow pro Pasan Wanasingh, the first time Morecambe have got him out in four innings.

Miles was run out by a superb throw from the boundary by Jono Gates as Barrow were in a quandry about whether to go for the runs or play safe.

Morecambe came as close as they could to victory but Barrow held on with a tough half chance to Dennison's left hand in second to last over going down.
