In another Saturday devastated by torrential rain, only 15 games survived out of 34 fixtures making the total cancellations so far this season in the Lancaster Honda North Lancashire League to 106.
The two outstanding Lancashire Amateur Cup second round ties were both played with Bolton-le-Sands being outclassed 8-1 at Old Blackburnians, Mark Smith scoring.

The other clash was a derby between Highgrove and Marsh United and it lived up to its billing with Highgrove edging through 3-2.

Highgrove started well against a strong wind and after Lee Brade broke up a Marsh attack, the ball fell to Dan Broadley who lashed the ball into the net.

Marsh raised their game but the Highgrove defence held firm and they should have been further in front at half-time but Broadley wasted a great chance after good work by Scott King.

Highgrove did find the net eight minutes into the second half when a terrific shot from Luke Ogley was saved only for Russell Mitchell to pounce and volley home.

Marsh narrowed the deficit in the 60th minute when full-back Mark Hetherington fired in a free-kick from 30 yards past an out-of-position keeper.

However, the game looked all over when Luke Ogley made it 3-1 to the home side in the 80th minute only for Alan Coulton to make it 3-2 with three minutes to go.

But the impressive Highgrove defence again stood firm to put them into round three where they will travel to play Old Rochdalians or Bacup Cricket Club on Saturday, October 25.

In the Premier Division, TIC Dynamos closed the gap on leaders Storeys with a hard-earned win over Swarthmoor Social Club.

Dynamos opened up a 2-0 lead by the break with goals by Damien Salisbury and Stuart Rushworth.

In poor conditions, the game burst to life in the last 10 minutes when TIC substitute Martin Lewis scored a brace and Ricky Gallagher replied at the death for Swarthmoor.

Galgate had a good win over Halton Rangers who are still trying to find their feet in the top flight.

Halton struggled to contain Galgate's Steve McMinn who scored four in a 5-2 win, Nathan Bindless also fidnding the net from the spot. Halton replied with two goals from Mark Plevey and Jamie Melvyn.

Morecambe Hoops, who were promoted with Halton, are also experiencing hard times in the top division. After winning its first game, they have lost all the rest.

Against Ingleton, they could only field 11 players with winger Aaron Simpson forced to go in goal due to their regular keeper being injured.

Ingleton started very well and opened up a 3-0 lead with goals from Paul Bruce (2) and Chris Bibby before the Hoops had to play with 10 due to an injury.

They did battle back with goals from Paul Dewhirst (2) and Vernon Middleton but David Whitfield made it 4-3 as Ingleton ran out winners.

In Division One, Ingleton Reserves played well to contain leaders Bowerham with the game scoreless until half-time.

But Bowerham ran away with the game after the break with goals from Joe Bouskill, John Dalgliesh and Jamie Wright to extend their lead at the top of the division.

Storeys Reserves had an easy win over a Grange side that fielded no fewer than nine reserve team players.

From the first whistle it was always going to be a win for the strong Storeys side, goals by Tom Gammon, Paul Boyle (2), Adam Lund and Paul Fraser making it a 5-0 win.

Both Torrisholme and Boys Club fielded weakened teams for various reasons in their 1-1 draw, Scott Shields scoring for Torrisholme and Joe Proud replying for Boys Club.

In Division Two, Morecambe Cricket Club took advantage of Bolton-le-Sands' cup travels to move to the top after beating Middleton in a thrilling game.

Middleton deservedly led at half-time with a Sean Gordon goal but MCC equalised with a Dave Riley goal.

Gordon scored his second to put Middleton in front again but Matthew Hartley came off the bench for MCC and he soon equalised.

The Cricket Club then threw everyone forward land got a late winner when Andy Forbes stole in to score after a very good game.

Freehold FC kept their winning run going when they beat Galgate Reserves 2-0.

Freehold took the lead when Jimmy Watters hit home a tremendous left foot volley from the edge of the area.

In the second half, a Watters shot was saved and leading scorer Richard Chambers was first to react and scored the second with a simple tap in.

The Division Three match of the day was between Bolton-le-Sands Reserves and Gregson with both sides doing well when they had the wind.

Gregson were 3-0 up at the break with goals from Dominic Williams, Chris Hinchcliffe and Darren Hinchcliffe but Sands bounced back to level through Chris Hodgson, James Vipond and Antony Lewis.

The energetic Gregson side scored a late winner when Williams fired in a fourth.

A strong Bentham Reserves side were far too good for Boys Club Reserves winning 3-0 . James Earnshaw and Daniel Jackson (2) scoring.

In Division Four, Gregson Reserves failed to emulate their first team, but put up a good performance against Moghuls.

Muktah Patel gave Moghuls a slight 1-0 advantage at half time but the game was killed off with two early second half goals by Kabir Patel and recent signing Adze Danboyi. Gregson's only goal was scored by Chris Ecob.

Villa Royale were also made to fight for all its worth against the veteran Morecambe Gold side before winning 2-1.

Young Jamie Luraschi scored twice for Villa with Eddie McGaragher scoring the goal of the game for Gold.

Arnside went out of the Westmorland Senior Cup, losing 2-0 to a strong Appleby side.
