Guests included VIPs from Urban Splash, Lancaster City Council and other local organisations, ex-Midland staff, Friends of the Midland and also comedian Jim Bowen who lives at Melling near Lancaster.

They enjoyed a special performance by the BBC Big Band in the hotel foyer which was recorded for the TV programme and for Radio 2, including songs from rising jazz star Beth Rowley.

The Midland Hotel edition of The Culture Show is to be broadcast this week, Tuesday, June 17.
