A HEST BANK man who works as Coronation Street's head scriptwriter says his job is the best in the world.
Peter Whalley spoke to The Visitor just days after collecting a Special Achievement Award at the UK Soap Awards ceremony shown on ITV last Wednesday night.

Peter, who has worked on the nation's favourite show for three decades, said: "It was a complete surprise and a great honour.

"After 30 years it's good to receive something for the mantelpiece. It's the best job there is. I can't think of a better one."

Former English teacher Peter was one of two achievement award-winners on the night – the other being EastEnders actress Barbara Windsor (who plays Peggy Mitchell).
