MAJOR national chain, Travelodge have identified where they want to build a new hotel in Morecambe.
Several sites had been suggested following our exclusive story last year revealing the company's plans for Morecambe.

The former Frontierland site and the new Morecambe football stadium at Westgate (which already has outline permission for a hotel) were mentioned. But The Visitor understands Travelodge have plumped for a new-build right in the centre of town.

Their chosen site is at Euston Road in and above existing units running from the Morecambe mosaic to the junction with Central Drive. If the plans go ahead, a new reception area and stairwell would be established at the corner unit, currently occupied by Barnardo's.

Above that – and above the rest of the units on that block – Travelodge would build a 60-bed hotel involving the creation of 16 new jobs.

Beneath the hotel, two new, larger retail units would be formed.

I think that`s going to make life a little more awkward for Morecambe FC to find a buyer for a hotel within their complex if this goes ahead.
It`s a good sign for Morecambe in general, but I would have preferred it to have been at the new ground - although i`m aware that it`s a little out of the town centre - but that`s never stopped Travelodge before!
