THE head of local police says residents of Lancaster and Morecambe have helped Lancashire Constabulary lead the field in neighbourhood policing.
Ch Supt Tim Jacques, praised locals after Lancashire police was awarded the highest grade available during a recent inspection by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabularies (HMIC).

"This area has led the way in Neighbourhood Policing for the force in many areas," said Ch Supt Jacques.

"People in our communities are having a real say in how we police their areas now through regular police surgeries and Police and Community Together (PACT) meetings.

"Local residents are setting local priorities and we take note of what they say.

"Because of this we now know far more about the small details in our areas that cause the biggest problems and can act on those along with our partners.

"Forces from across the country come to this area to see how our Community Beat Managers and Police Community Support Officers link in with their communities and partners to make improvements.''

"Although it is great to receive such recognition and praise we know there is a lot more we can do and we won't be resting on our laurels.

"We want more people to be involved and are looking at more innovative ways to do that.

"I would urge anyone who wants to help the police in their area to get in touch.''
