ANOTHER bumper weekend is expected in Morecambe tonight and on Saturday when the town goes back to the 50s.
The Tutti Frutti festival celebrates the decade of Elvis Presley and Bill Haley with two days of rocking and rolling on Morecambe promenade (July 25 and 26) featuring some of the very best acts of the genre the country has to offer.

Sure to be popular, this event is funded by Poulton Neighbourhood Management and Winning Back Morecambe's West End.

Expect plenty of 50s-themed music, fashion and entertainment centred around The Carleton and The Platform.

The festival kicks off at The Carleton this Friday with performances including The HotWires, teddy-boy band Furious and nationally-acclaimed band The Firebirds.

Doors open at 7pm for an 8pm start and the event ends at 2am.

Saturday afternoon's free entertainment at The Platform includes live music including tribute acts to Shakin' Stevens and Buddy Holly, and the Wild Kats NW will also be taking to the stage.

Jiving and dancing to the music will be Glasgow dance troupe Rock Til U Drop and local group Happy Feet.

There will also be vintage clothing and music stalls, vintage vehicles, traditional seaside entertainment, Punch and Judy shows and children's entertainment.

Saturday night is back at The Carleton for performances by Crazy Jay and the Partytimers, Darryl Higham and Phil Hayley and his Comments.

Doors open at 7pm for an 8pm start and the evening ends at 2am.
The weekend's DJs include Rockin' Louie and Phil McGrath.

Hundreds of 50s fans from outside the area have bought tickets and are coming to spend the weekend in Morecambe for what has been described as "a really strong show of 50s music" Last year tickets sold out the week before the festival so you are advised to buy quickly while you still have a chance.

Tickets for the evening show are only £15 each or £25 for a weekend pass (Friday and Saturday night) and they are on sale at the Tourist Information Centre, The Platform, Morecambe, telephone: 01524 582803.

Tickets are also on sale at the Poulton Neighbourhood Management Office, 53 Euston Road.

The Tutti Frutti Festival now has its own website – www.tutti-frutti-festival.com – containing lots more information about the event with photos from last year's festival too.
