A WOMAN who fled from police, jumped into the River Lune, and appeared to self-harm, had to be 'tasered' for her own safety.
The incident unfolded after police were called to Lancaster train station at 5.30pm on Wednesday, November 26 after two women attacked two Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs).

One woman was detained, but the other headed off towards Lancaster castle carrying a knife.

The police helicopter was deployed and the 20-year-old local woman was spotted by the edge of the River Lune.

A Lancashire police spokesman said: "She entered the water and appeared to be self-harming. "Officers attempted to negotiate however she did not respond and for the safety of the woman, and for members of the public, Taser authority was granted and used to bring the incident to a safe conclusion."

The woman was arrested and taken to Lancaster Royal Infirmary and is now in police custody.
