MORECAMBE is one of just four seaside towns in England chosen to take part in a new government project encouraging more people to get online.
The Seaside Towns Roadshow scheme - 'Seaside Voices'- will help residents learn about the mysteries of the internet at various locations in the centre of Morecambe.

Residents who are unfamiliar with the internet, or who don't have regular online
access at home, are invited to come along to the roadshow. They'll be able to take part in a variety of activities designed to make using the web enjoyable, relevant and interactive.

The initiative will provide the computer equipment and know how for residents to create their own community website.

They will then be shown how to upload photographs and other documents, write blogs and maybe even create podcasts.

People will also be shown how to use social media such as Twitter and Facebook, to communicate with friends and family.

Organisers are especially interested in meeting anyone with memorabilia of Morecambe in its heyday. Old photographs and other items can be scanned and uploaded into a special nostalgia area of the website.

Community groups who are interested in learning how to create their own websites are also being encouraged to take part.

The roadshow will run for five days from Monday, February 22 to Friday, February 26.

The Morecambe project is being run by the UK Online Centre on Regent Road with the support of Diversity 103.5 FM, the local community radio station for Morecambe and Lancaster.

Local film production company Morph Films will be making video shorts of local characters to add to the site.

The basic website has already been created at www.morecambe.seasidevoices.org.uk

Roadshow venues are from 10am to 4pm.

Monday, February 22 - Arndale Centre

Tuesday, February 23 - Morecambe Library

Wednesday, February 24 - Arndale Centre

Thursday, February 25 - Morrison's

Friday, February 26 - Morrison's
