THAT delicious final moment of anticipation is now upon us - in just four days Morecambe's superbly refurbished Midland Hotel will throw open its doors to the public.
Midland prepares for opening

And The Visitor has been lucky enough to get a sneak preview of what lies inside the stunning Art Deco hotel.

Gone is the neglected building with layers of peeling paintwork, corroding metal and crumbling concrete. In its place is a sparkling modernist edifice with the most exquisite of finishes and the highest spec interior conceivable.

Stunning furniture has been shipped in to grace the beautiful suites and public rooms. Members of the public, including bridal parties, tourists, locals and business people, are queueing up to book rooms and sample The Midland Hotel experience.

Fears that the hotel might not be ready as planned at 11am on June 1 have been cast aside as the developer Urban Splash is adamant that the hotel will open on time. The hotel is currently a hive of activity with tradespeople working all hours to put the finishing touches to the building's interior and exterior.

And as the final titivation is taking place 'The Culture Show', starring Lauren Laverne and Mark Kermode, is spending two days at The Midland recording a special programme for BBC2. As The Visitor went to press BBC2's camera crews were on site at The Midland and BBC Radio 2 was also preparing to record a big band playing at the hotel.

* For details of the refurbishment, the views of those involved and the latest photographs of the building see this week's Visitor.
