A MAN stole a pair of hair straighteners from Morrisons to replace his girlfriend's set before she realised he had broken them.
Alan Eliot Nelson, 32, of South Grove, Morecambe, pleaded guilty to theft when he appeared at Lancaster Magistrates' Court.

The court heard that on August 12, a security guard at Morrisons, Morecambe, saw Nelson acting suspiciously.

He was seen to remove a pair of hair straighteners from a box, put them in a bag and go to the checkout. He paid for a newspaper but not for the straighteners.

He told police he had broken his girlfriend's hair straighteners but wanted to return them before she found out.

Defending, Chris Evans told the court that because he broke the straighteners were recovered in a saleable condition.

Magistrates gave Nelson a conditional discharge for 12 months but no order for costs because he had limited means.
