MORECAMBE'S MP went back to school on Friday and found a 12-year-old pupil to be just as persistent as a politician during Prime Minister's Question Time.
Geraldine Smith, who returned to her old school Morecambe Community High to talk to kids about the life of an MP, politics and local issues found herself in the firing line from Year 7 student Cameron Rance.

Cameron kept asking Geraldine questions about improving the children's playground at Torrisholme and she was very taken with his tenacity.

"He was so determined - he kept on coming back to the same subject," said Geraldine.

"He impressed me. I will be looking into the situation with the playground." Geraldine decided to come into school after teacher Colin Campbell and students from form 7F lobbied her about the prospect of bringing an animal park to Morecambe.

"They asked me what were the chances of getting a zoo in Morecambe and I had to be an honest politician and say there wasn't much chance," she said.

"But never say never!

"They asked some very good questions, a real mixture. They asked about how Morecambe was improving and about Tony Blair and Gordon Brown."
Geraldine also got good feedback from the kids about Morecambe's Stunt School, based at Regent Park Studios and run by top film and TV stuntman Martin Shenton.

"Quite a few of them mentioned the Stunt School, which I had only just been talking about in Parliament during the week," she said.

"I was saying how crime in the West End had fallen dramatically since free tickets were given out for kids to go to the Stunt School."

Geraldine stayed for over an hour and Mr Campbell said her talk had been very beneficial.

"I was extremely impressed with how seriously the students took Geraldine's visit and she was very interested in what they had to say," he said.
