GUESTS and staff were evacuated from the hotel at Carnforth's truckers' paradise after heavy rain caused severe flooding on Saturday night and Sunday morning.
Twenty-six people were moved from the Truckhaven Hotel to the nearby Pine Lake resort after the ground floor was flooded under 30cm of water and cars in the car park were submerged right up to their wing mirrors.
Several manhole covers had also blown off leaving hidden holes in the submerged water.
Police patrols who were called to the transport cafe, hotel and truck stop at around 8.30am on Sunday said the "entire site" was under water as floods blocked the A6 between the Carnforth railway bridge and Truckhaven roundabout.
Local farmers worked with fire officers, using tractors and trailers to move wagons away from Truckhaven, while staff helped to divert traffic away from the flooded site.
The A6 - which will remain closed for the immediate future - was being used on Sunday and Monday to store the wagons whilst they dried out before being driven away.
Truckhaven will also remain closed while the clean-up operation continues.
A police spokesperson said: "A particularly gratifying aspect of this incident was the way in which the emergency services, the Highways Authority, Ameys, Environmental Services, Pine Lake Resort, Stobarts, the council and especially the local farmers were able to work together to deal with those stranded."
