A MINDLESS vandal went on a spree of damage, spraying graffiti throughout the centre of Morecambe.
And The Visitor is calling on the community to identify and 'shop' the criminal.
The graffiti offender sprayed 'BOAB' and 'GGE' along the cyclepath near Euston Grove bridge right through to near Morrisons.

Also vandalised were the Festival Market buildings, the attractive new wall adjacent to the Midland Hotel and rocks near some of the Tern bird-themed artwork.

Mark Davies, head of City Council (Direct) Services, said: "Thankfully in this district incidents of graffiti are low compared to elsewhere in the country and we want to keep it that way.

"Having said that, one incident is, of course, too many and it can cost us upwards of £100 each time to remove.

"Not only is there a cost to the council, and therefore the council tax payer, our officers are taken away from other duties in order to clear the graffiti away.

"We do work closely with the police to track down offenders where possible but, unfortunately, it can prove difficult to find enough evidence to prosecute.

"Where possible we urge prosecution and, as part of the punishment, for the offender to clear away graffiti themselves as a way of paying back society." And that's where Visitor readers can help.

Someone locally must know who is responsible for this shameful act of vandalism.

It's our town and we're proud of it. Acts like this ruin the hard work people are putting into making the place a better one in which we can all live.

* If you know who the offender is – ring police on 63333 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where you can give details and remain anonymous.

Let's catch this culprit!
