A NEW heritage bus service is set to come to Morecambe bringing a new attraction to the town.
Former long distance lorry driver David Lord has bought an old Morecambe and Heysham Corporation bus, currently in London Transport livery, and plans to start the new service in June, driving the bus himself.
David, from Lancaster Road in Morecambe, found himself out of work after 27 years lorry driving, and with a friend of his, (who has now sadly died of cancer) he came up with the idea to run a bus service for tourists in Morecambe.
He said: "I bought a 1949 open topped Morecambe and Heysham Corporation bus for £20,000 and plan to restore it to its original green and cream colour.
"Its currently in London Transport livery and is being stored at Lancaster Training Services on Penrod Way in Heysham.
"It will be a new attraction for Morecambe and I've been working with local tourism and traders to come up with the best routes. The trail will be loosely based on the Poulton Square trail and places of interest in the town.
"I'm also planning trips to the Heritage Centre at Heysham, trips to Carnforth and trips to Lancaster Castle," he said.
"It will be a pleasant experience for holidaymakers and will enable them to see the area and what's going on."
David has already had fantastic feedback for his plans and can't see why it won't work.
He added: "I'm hoping to start trips in the second week in June and will be working seven days a week at first.
"Morecambe needs some new attractions and I think it's a first class idea!"
